Winter Season Heats Up At Wandin

Jaco Kukkuk in fine form.

It was a unseasonal 25°C for the second race on the XCR calendar but this did not deter the Malvern Harriers who posted some terrific results. This year brought some changes to the short distance cross country event with the venue moving to the Wandin Park Equestrian Centre in the Yarra Valley and the open women’s race being extended to 6km.

Our men’s division three team finished first on the back of some very consistent performances with Jaco Kukkuk the fastest, completing the challenging 8km course in 32:58. This result lifted the team into second place on the ladder and with runners more suited to longer distances, the season ahead looks promising.

Our women’s division two team handled the step up in distance with aplomb with all members running well in the tough conditions. Tracey Austin finished in seventh place overall with a time of 23:45 and new recruit Amy Hessell was a great addition, finishing in 27:12.

There were some good age category results too, with Chris Rayment (36:37) third in 55-59, Damian Phelan (32:23) sixth in 45-59 and Caroline Howard (33:01) ninth in 50-54.

Thankyou to Richard and Caroline for taking Photos.

Individual results are now available.
